Ambrose Heath (Francis Geoffrey Miller 1891 - 1969) culinary journalist, author and broadcaster wrote for various newspapers including the News Chronicle and The Manchester Guardian, before becoming food writer for The Morning Post 1931–37. He was also a regular contributor to The Guardian, The Daily Mirror, et al. and Cookery Correspondent of the periodical, The Queen, 1938–64; he wrote the Daily Mirror Patsy Cookery Strip, 1946–53. From 1932 many of his books were published by Faber and Faber with decorations by Edward Bawden. Another artist of note, Reynolds Stone, embellished the beautifully produced series of leaflets for The Cookery Advisory Department of AGA Heat Limited. To me his finest work was The Country Life Cookery Book illustrated by Eric Ravilious. It is full of recipes echoing the seasons of the British Isles with all the wonderful ingredients we have wrought into dishes to delight every taste. Country House food at its very best.
